iPad 3 coming out next month?

They said...

The famous Apple franchise of iPad's next generation tablet is going to be releasing very soon. Rumours have it that it will be announced and launched next month.

The new iPad is supposed to have higher Pixel density with similar design as the iPad 2. The iPad 3 is also supposed to have a upgraded processing chip of A5+ (not A6) that is supposed to be a dual core core with a quad core video card.

Doesn't it seem like Apple is always going minimal with their upgrades?? ex// iPhone 4S.
I think it's about time Apple steps up their game and brings something new to the table, especially with the increasing competition.

Time to think different???

Northface brand too popular in Korea?

They said...

The Brand name clothing "Northface" has grasped the attention of many people in South Korea. The teenage population of Korea is going on a rampage in order to obtain this clothing for themselves. There are reports of groups of teens who would target individuals wearing these "Northface" clothing. This phenonmenon, which doesn't seem to occur anywhere else other than Korea, is an interesting way in which consumerism drives individuals.

In Korea, almost every single teenagers are seen wearing "Northface" clothing during the winter times. Despite, the fact that the costs of these Northface winter clothing are priced signifcantly higher than those of North America (something that would cost us in Canada for $250 may go up to $400 in Korea). The Northface brand has become so popular till the point that there are rankings given to individuals wearing different "price points" of the clothing.

For example, wearing a coat that is most common to get and which is priced lower than others would fit you into the category of "chi jill e" (which can mean "lame" "geek" "of low status" "losers"). Thus, there are reports of school bullying occuring to individuals who do not possess these clothing. Also, people are treated differently according to the "rank" of the Northface clothing that they wear. Therefore, these "ranks" have caused teens who cannot afford the clothing into resorting to robbery as their solution.

Not only is this an issue, but parents have reported issues in providing their children with these clothing that are pulling them back financially. Considering the fact that the average salary range within Korea is significantly less than those of North America, the impact that these expensive clothing has upon their lives increases. Thus, parents knowing the fact that their children's self esteem is dependent upon possessing these clothing will sacrifice hard earned income into purchasing these clothing.

Hopefully this issue will be resolved with the increase in awareness that media has brought to the Korean population.

Japan scientists makes "Avatar" into reality

They said...

Japanese scientists have succeeded in creating a robot (Telesar V) that can make the user feel like they have become the robot itself. It allows the user to see, hear, and feel what the robot encounters. Through the cameras as the eyes, the user can see; through array of information that is interpreted into sensations, the user can feel; and through the microphones that transmits what the robot hears, the user can hear. This robot engages the user to feel similar to what the user of "Avatar" had encountered during the famous movie.

The robot (or android) follows the movement of the user. And through using operator headguar, vest and gloves, the user gets a real life experience. Even though the robot doesn't react smoothly and quickly to the user's actions, it is still fascinating to see android that allows users to feel.

It won't be far when we'll see sci-fi movies coming into reality such as "Real Steel" and "Avatar"
There has even been rumours that says that they figured out how to understand what we are dreaming by tracking our brain signals, which is one step closer to controlling and monitoring our dream ("Inception")

Lake found underneath Antarctica

They said...

Scientists have found one of the largest subglacial lake underneath Antarctica. This lake which is called LakeVostok has been hidden underneath the thick layer of ice for over 20 million years, in other words, the lake hasn't been exposed to the external environment for 20 million years.

The ice is around 12,366 feet (3,769m) and Russian scientists have been drilling through the ice for over two decades. The scientists are hoping to find new discoveries of species, and microbial (that existed before ice age).

The difficulty with this project was the fact that the subglacier lake was underneath the surface of minus 89 Celcius (one of the coldest on Earth), which led to many machine failures. Concern was with regards to the machines that were used to break the ice to reach the pristine lake; scientists did not desire for the lake to be contaminated.

The research of this lake will provide for us new insights into science, climate, and of our Earth itself. Hopefully we'll discover something new and interesting (perhaps a sea creature???)

Samsung Galaxy S3 possibly launch in May

They said...

The successor to the Samsung Galaxy series, Samsung Galaxy S3 is presumed to be released as early as May of 2012.

Rumours have it that the device is supposed to be 7 mm thin, slimmer than the Galaxy S2 (8.49mm).

The rumoured specs are: quad core processor, Android OS 4.0 (Icecream sandwich), 8MP camera, 2MP front facing camera, and a Super AMOLED Plus (HD) display.

It has been speculated that Samsung has already made this device. However, the only reason why they are prolonging their launch is due to the upcoming iPhone 5, which is presumed to be launching around June of 2012. Samsung wants to see what kind of specs that iPhone 5 will have and possibly beat the competition in terms of the speed and other hardware specifics. Samsung also reports strong sales with their current Galaxy S/S2 devices and believes it isn't necessary for the company to release a new model, when the current model reports good sales.

It seems like this summer is going to be an interesting one with the release of two of the most loved smartphones out in the market (iPhone and Galaxy). Personally for me, I'll be anticipating this summer due to the end of my cellphone contract. We'll see which is the better phone this year.

Blackberry Playbook being sold for $149

They said...

RIM's Tablet PC, the Blackberry Playbook is currently being sold on Telus for $149. Considering how the Tablet started off being around $500 in the beginning, this shows the degree of success that RIM had with their Tablet PC. The price of the Playbook kept going down, from $500 to $299, then to $199 and now $149....

The main problem that the Blackberry Playbook faced in comparison to the other Tablet PCs is the fact that the Blackberry's application market is significantly smaller than others such as the Appstore, Android market, and even the Windows market. This however may change with the update of the Playbook into 2.0. The Playbook 2.0 is supposed to be able to support Android applications, improve overall performance, and sync between Blackberry smartphone and the Tablet more smoothly. Considering how this solves the main issue that the Playbook is faced with, it may be a good opportunity to buy the Playbook at such a low price.

The Playbook has good specifications: 7" Display, 1Ghz Dual core Processor, 1GB RAM. It was mainly their OS system that has brought the Playbook to its current state. The Playbook is known to have a good hardware factor with sleek design and weight of less than 1 lb (0.9 lb).

For $149, I truely believe that its worth the money in buying the Playbook if you've been considering getting a Tablet PC. Perhaps, if RIM started their product from being priced around $299 from the start, things wouldn't have looked as bad as it is now.

P.S: The 16GB and 32GB are both priced at the same price of $149

New method of stealing upon us???

They said...

A Hacker came out claiming that he can steal people's creditcards without having to go through peoples' wallets.

Using a device that tracks signals from the creditcard's microchips, he demonstrated to the media how easy it was for him to obtain someone else's creditcard information without even having any physical contact with that person.

This demonstration proves the high degree of vulnerability that we have with our creditcards. Though, the microchip technology allowed easy transaction of sales through just tapping the creditcard to the "paypass" machines, it seems as though there are great risks associated with having such technology.

Even though, you would have to be a highly skilled hacker to develop a device to track those information. The thought of someone going through our personal possessions without having to physically take it from us is a very scary thought...

Let's hope creditcard companies does something about this

Ontario Place to close its doors

They Said...

One of the tourist attraction and amusement park for people of Toronto is going to be closed for around 5 years time span to revitalize the theme park for the consumers.

Ontario place has been reported to be a liability for the province of Ontario, costing $20 million to keep the theme park going every year. It seems like a reasonable move on behalf of the province to take this time to really think what went wrong and try to use this facility to benefit the province.

Personally, I believe that the Ontario Place simply doesn't have the attractions necessary to attract youth, college/university students, and working class adults. The location appears to be more tailored towards children or parents with childrens. Thus, the idea of having a casino may be a good reveneue generating attraction on behalf of the province. It may also be useful for the government to think about why the CNE and the Wonderland is so much more attractive to consumers than Ontario place.

It is assumed that the Park will reopen again around 2017, which is five years time from now. I surely would like to see a great tourist attraction in Toronto that will hopefully bring it's tourist economy of Toronto back to how it was in the past.
